A free Record story: The First Mark
The First Mark, a story set seven years before The Record, is free today in EPUB and PDF, for any reader, when you join the mailing list.
Wren Delacroix is nine years old, and on a Thursday in September a clerk makes the first mark beside her name. Three Thursdays running, her silence has been written into the book as yes. So her mother signs a form, and her best friend Cal becomes her Voice: the person who, by law, says what Wren means. Wren has one word to say for herself in that room. She has practiced it all morning.
It’s the day Wren got her Voice, and the only time you’ll meet her Aunt Lise this way. No spoilers, and no need to have read the series.
If it pulls you in, The Record and The Record Stands are out now, with three more books on the way through November 24.
