Two new books this fall: The Record and The Record Stands

Troy Taliancich’s new novel is the start of a series. The Record comes out on Kindle and in paperback on October 27, and book two, The Record Stands, follows a week later, on November 3.
The Record is set in a near future where words only count face to face. No calls, no messages, no recordings: every argument is made in a room full of people, and nothing is true until a clerk writes it down. Wren has never spoken on the Floor; Cal speaks for her. Then she finds a phone that should not exist, with a voice on it that the Record says was never there: her aunt’s.
In The Record Stands, a clip of Wren’s own face starts going porch to porch on the illegal phones, saying words she never said, and she has one storm season to walk into the one room where every word is kept and say the true thing herself.
You can read the opening of The Record and five of the city’s laws of speech on the book’s page, or visit the series site, therecordseries.com.
